Description
Reading, PA is filled with artistic gems to visit and explore. Our first stop is GoggleWorks Center for the Arts. In this repurposed industrial building— once a site where precision lenses were made—we’ll tour galleries and studios where artists work in a variety of media, including printmaking, metalsmithing, ceramics, and more. On our guided tour we’ll learn about Reading’s storied past and this historic site, and experience a glassblowing demonstration. Next we’ll head to Reading Public Museum, where we’ll start with a catered lunch, and then take a guided walk through the museum’s 25-acre arboretum. We’ll view and learn about the many works in the sculpture garden as well as the exotic trees and plantings. Inside the museum we’ll have a guided tour of a special exhibit of the art of M.C. Escher, the Dutch artist known for his mind-bending works that explore mathematical concepts and optical illusions. We’ll have time to explore the museum and shop before heading to our final stop, the historic Reading Pagoda. Built in 1908 and modeled after a Japanese Pagoda, this large, unusual structure is on the US Register of Historic places. After a walk around the Pagoda and public observatory, we’ll board our coach back to Cheltenham High.
