Description
Go down in history—300 feet beneath the surface of the earth in the once abandoned, but now restored Lackawanna Coal Mine. Walk through the winding underground rock tunnels (temperature 53 degrees year round) as our guide describes methods used and the heroic efforts of men and boys, whose toil fueled the conversion of our economy from agriculture to industry. After a delicious buffet at the 75-year-old, family-owned Cooper’s, we visit the nearby Steamtown National Historic Site and step back in time to experience the story of steam railroading. We will visit the roundhouse, railyards and history museum.
