NEW! The Uniqueness of Queens

$195.00

Our tour around New York’s largest borough will showcase the many images of Queens: we’ll explore its unique history and highlight the multiculturalism the borough is famous for. We’ll start at the site of the historic Astoria Studios, now home to the Museum of the Moving Image, the nation’s only museum dedicated to the art, history and technology of the moving image in all its forms. We’ll take a guided, interactive Behind the Screen tour, which offers some hands-on experiences in movie-making techniques as well as glimpses of cinema history. We’ll have lunch at a nearby Greek restaurant. Then we’ll step back on our bus for a guided tour through an area of western Queens that has been identified as the most diverse place in the world and has a history spanning five centuries. From colonial-era sites to a park created for outdoor escape during the pandemic, we will explore highlights from various time periods in the neighborhoods of Jackson Heights, Elmhurst and Corona. We’ll learn about some of the well-known things that were invented, manufactured or grown here and discover local lore. And we’ll see businesses, houses of worship and community centers serving an amazing diversity of worldwide cultures. Along the way we’ll have an opportunity to step off the bus for brief strolls in remarkable neighborhoods of Queens.

Cost includes transportation, entrance fees, guided tours, snacks, lunch and tips.
