Walls of Imagination in Philly

$139.00

Cost includes transportation (school bus), entry fees, guided tours, lunch and tips.

Philly’s walls are filled with artwork—sometimes approved of by the city or a property owner; sometimes, shall we say, without official sanction, making for a vibrant visual mix in the city. We’ll start our day with a walking tour in the South Street area, where we’ll check out a variety of work by street artists. One of Philly’s most famous indoor and outdoor artists is Isaiah Zagar. After lunch at Bridget Foy’s, we’ll tour his Watkins Street Studio, newly available to a limited number of visitors, which served as his private workshop since the early 2000s. The walls and ceiling of his studio serve as a canvas for his mosaic work and include “chandeliers” made of found objects by a friend. We’ll learn about the artist’s life, his influences, and the collaborations that made the work at this studio possible.
