33 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE: MUSIC & SOCIAL ISSUES (Profile Series)

We will explore connections between music and political issues and movements for social change, with the focus on individual artists (and groups) who have created a significant body of work related to social justice and political protest, including Phil Ochs, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Gil Scott-Heron, Victor Jara, Holly Near, Sweet Honey in the Rock, The Prince Myshkins, Roy Zimmerman, and Randy Rainbow.  The class will include a PowerPoint, and in addition to recorded examples, the instructor will also play his guitar and sing some of the songs in class.
