ISN’T IT ROMANTIC: MUSIC IN THE 19TH CENTURY

An exploration of the period known as the Romantic era of Western European concert music, including a sampling of works by Beethoven, Berlioz, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn (Felix & Fanny), Mussorgsky, Rossini, Schubert, Schumann (Robert & Clara), Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Wagner and others. We will look at the important forms, style characteristics and musical elements of the era, as well as the historical and cultural context.
