The medium of pastels combines  elements of drawing and painting.  In this course, we’ll discuss  techniques for choosing your pastels;  communicating a variety of textures;  layering in a composition; expressive  mark making for representational and  abstract work; choosing paper and  other substrates; and study the works  of pastel artists past and present.  Prior drawing experience helpful but  not required. Please bring drawing  paper, pencil, and chalk pastels to the  first class; instructor will provide a comprehensive materials list then.
