STATELY HOMES AND HISTORIC GARDENS IN GERMANTOWN

Step back in time through the garden gates and grand old doors of a pair of Germantown’s historic gems. You’ll start the day with a guided tour of Stenton mansion and gardens, built in the 1720s as the stately Georgian home for William Penn’s secretary James Logan and succeeding generations of the Logan family. The house illustrates the tale of one prominent family and their servants, but also the birth and growth of the nation. The family still lived there in the early 20th century when the Garden Club of America was founded in their refurbished garden. After re-boarding our school bus and heading to lunch at a cozy restaurant along the Wissahickon, we’ll return to the heart of Germantown to explore Wyck House and gardens, where the lovely rose garden will be in bloom. The garden is the oldest in America following its original plan and contains unusual heritage varieties. Our guide will lead us through the house and grounds, which were home to generations of the Haines family from the 1790s into the early 1970s. The home is filled with their furnishings and items from their daily lives.

Cost includes transportation (school bus), admission fees, guides, lunch and gratuities.
