SPRING BIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES OF THE DELAWARE VALLEY

Get ready for the spring bird migration and the emergence of butterflies in the Delaware Valley region. Numerous species of birds move into or pass through the Delaware Valley on their migrations to their nesting ground. In the spring and throughout the summer, many species of butterflies are hatching from their eggs or leaving their chrysalises to begin their oft-times brief but reproductive lives. This course will focus on where and when to see these species in your back yard and also farther afield. We will discuss field marks, such as size, shape and unique features to identify birds and butterflies in their environments. We will also learn how to identify birds by their songs and vocalizations. Field trips will be arranged in class to some localized birding and butterfly hot spots.(Fyi travel to the filed trips will be by personal vehicle).
