Description
An in-depth exploration of some great albums (and some songs) of 1972, including work by David Bowie, James Brown, Jimmy Cliff, Deep Purple, Nick Drake, The Eagles, Roberta Flack, “Free to Be…You and Me”, Al Green, Jethro Tull, Curtis Mayfield, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Randy Newman, Rolling Stones, Helen Reddy, Lou Reed, Todd Rundgren, The Staple Singers, Steely Dan, The Temptations, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Yes, and Neil Young. We will generally examine two albums plus one song per class, with a thorough look at lyrics, music, structure, arrangement, and production, as well as cover art, biography, context and impact. Video links provided to students who can’t attend at the scheduled time.
