An exploration of the early Romantic era of Western European concert music, including a sampling of works by Beethoven, Bellini, Berlioz, Chopin, Donizetti, Gottschalk, Liszt, Mendelssohn (Felix & Fanny), Paganini, Rossini, Schubert, Schumann (Robert & Clara), Verdi, Wagner, Weber and others. We will look at the important forms, style characteristics and musical elements of the era, as well as the historical and cultural context. Video links provided to students who can’t attend at the scheduled time.
