Spend the morning touring Pennsylvania Hospital’s new museum galleries, marking its 275th anniversary with exhibits connecting medical history to modern breakthroughs. This tour of America’s first hospital, founded by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond in 1751, includes preserved spaces such as the nation’s first surgical amphitheater, the historic medical library, and the newly-restored apothecary, displaying notes by Benjamin Franklin. Eight unique galleries feature interactive video and hands-on activities illustrating previously untold stories about Pennsylvania Hospital’s role in the history of modern medicine. After lunch at a nearby restaurant, we’ll continue to the Masonic Temple Library and Museum of Philadelphia, showcasing its world-renowned, eclectic architecture and rich history. This National Historic Landmark houses seven stunningly ornate lodge rooms modeled after different ancient design styles, such as: Ancient Egyptian, Norman, Gothic, and Ionic. The onsite museum preserves unique historic Masonic artifacts, including items linked to famous members like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington.
